Here's a little hand print,
Just so you can recall,
Exactly how my fingers looked,
When I was very small!
ART is an essential part of our curriculum at Bruntsfield.
It helps the children learn how to express themselves creatively, to develop their imaginative skills and to grow their self esteem when they show off the finished work!
Painting and crafts figure high on the agenda as the children establish their manual dexterity and their hand to eye co-ordination and it can even help with problem solving skills which will set them in good stead in future life.
Art is a child's first visual language, from picture-books toddlers learn that shapes have names and represent familiar things. They begin to label well known shapes found in their scribbles and then begin to use simple shapes to construct their first works of art.
As children get older the drawings and scribbles become more complex and details and faces are added to bodies with personalities and names attached to the works.
Gradually a sense of pattern emerges, with houses, trees and families telling familiar stories and the skills learned can even help to make learning to write that bit easier.
But more important even than that – our children learn that art is fun!
Here, in our Art Gallery we are proud to offer you some of the works our talented children have produced in their art sessions.
We hope you get as much pleasure from them as we do!
